Exhibition War and Peace highlights works by official war artists in NERAM’s and UNE’s collections alongside works on loan from the Australian War Memorial. This exhibition aims to explore the rich and varied stories connecting Armidale to various wars, from storing precious paintings from the Art Gallery of New South Wales in the basement of the Armidale Teachers’ College to the provision of soldiers and horses to Beersheba and experience of Italian prisoners of war who laboured in Northern NSW.
Description of activity:
After a guided tour by our arts educator, students will discuss and respond to the exhibition through various prompts. Students will discuss Armidale’s history during the First and Second World War. In the gallery space children can participate in activities ‘postcards to home’ and making red poppies discussing their relevance and thinking about what they would write and who they would write to in a letter to home.
