A Celebration of Art In The Garden
On April 4 & 5 (Easter Saturday and Sunday) the Friends of NERAM will once again hold their annual NERAMble, this year in the park- like garden of “Tintagel” on Bundarra Rd , on the outskirts of Armidale.
Not only do the NERAMbles showcase gardening but also many other art forms in a celebration of the arts, with proceeds going to the New England Regional Art Museum.
This year the proceeds are going to the newly launched Adopt An Artwork appeal where families, local groups, and businesses will be invited to Adopt an Artwork to cover the cost of its restoration. Adoption ‘costs’ vary with each artwork from the Hinton or Coventry Collections, depending on how much conservation work is needed. These treatments include cleaning, retouching, frame restoration and glass restoration. The costs range from $240 to $10,000 with hundreds of prizes in between. It’s a special way to show support for the collections, and a chance to be involved in preserving this precious asset for present and future enjoyment. There will be a display about the project in the garden.
‘Tintagel’ is an expansive arboretum developing on a hill above Armidale with magnificent views of the city beyond. An avenue of Claret ash provides a memorable entrance to the garden which has a great mix of deciduous trees resplendent in their Autumn colour, and evergreen trees which provide year round shelter. An elegant courtyard is a feature as are the extensive brick walls which have been built by the owner. A young orchard is flourishing and a sheltered brick courtyard contains a thriving vegetable garden, full of sculptural plant supports constructed by the owner’s son.
This expansive 2 acre garden will provide a wonderful backdrop to the many art works and extra attractions. Scattered around the garden will be a sculpture display provided by a number of local sculptors, all for sale, which will delight garden visitors. More local art work, including local pottery and photographic cards, plus a second hand garden book and magazine stall will be extra features along with an Autumn Harvest stall. Another popular stall will be the pre-loved jewellery and scarf stall. Plants will be on sale from Blue Hills Perennial Nursery , “Glenrock”, Tenterfield.
Teas and lunches will be available. This will be a wonderful outing for all the family and their Easter guests with ‘Tintagel’ opening at the height of the New England autumn.
Entry is $8 per adult and children under 18 are free.
Directions: take Bundarra Rd , past the saleyards, for just 0.7km, the garden is immediately on the left just after going under the overpass (follow the NERAMble signs).
