The UNE Writers and Illustrators in Residence Program and NERAM are offering 2 hour writing workshop for adults on
Finding the Story you Simply Must Tell
Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose, whether your readers are young or old, one thing remains unavoidable – what you write is underpinned by story. It seems obvious, yet it’s often overlooked in the clamour for technical brilliance, thematic examination and soaring sentence structure.
In this workshop, we’ll attempt to unearth the story that you must tell. It may not be the story you think is burning to be told, yet it will be there, lurking, asking to emerge. Through a series of mostly painless (!) exercises, the stories that form who you are will begin to come to the surface, ready to be mined for inspiration. There will also be ample opportunity to ask questions and take part in a discussion about how writers work, the specific nuts and bolts of writing in an engaging and professional way, and how best to harness your own creativity.
