On Sunday 17 June, New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) will be transformed into a storytelling playground for the inaugural Goldilocks’ Grand Day Out. This special event promises to be a fun-filled day for Armidale families, with plenty of imaginative activities lined up to entertain and enchant the little ones.
Madeleine Winch, author and illustrator of the much-loved children’s book Come By Chance will be in residence, reading her delightful book at numerous times during the day. Come along for story time and view the book’s original watercolour illustrations and life size calico characters currently on display in the Mazda gallery.
Elsewhere in the museum local artists will be leading various creative activities:
Children can try their hand at sculpting clay figures and making mini-Claymation movies inspired by the Come by Chance story with artist and filmmaker Jonathan Larsen.
They can also create their very own artist books in the Museum of Printing, design eye-catching book jackets using all sorts of materials with artist and art educator Trish Donald and collaborate with each other writing and illustrating community story books.
The fabulous Felt Tip Theatre Company will be bringing Madeleine Winch’s story to life during mini workshops and performances, the popular photo booth will be back in action for fairy tale dress-up portraits and much more.
And, when hunger inevitably strikes, a sausage sizzle, cupcake decorating, a coffee cart or a trip to neramharvest café will keep everyone in the family satisfied. Goldilocks’ Grand Day out is a wonderful opportunity for children of all ages to explore and enjoy the art of storytelling and book illustration.
Tickets for activities start at $3 and will be available for purchase at the door on the day. Goldilocks’ Grand Day Out is on at NERAM on Sunday 17 June 2012 from 11am to 3pm.
