NERAM has purchased a new ‘scissor lift’ with the support of a major donation from the Friends of NERAM Inc.
The new Quick Lift UB10 EWP (Elevated Work Platform) was purchased with the assistance of a $10,000 donation from the Friends of NERAM which also assisted with the cost of Gallery Technician Bill Mara doing a training course for a ‘Working at Heights’ certificate.
“‘The Friends of NERAM are very pleased to donate a scissor lift to the gallery.” said Carol MacKerras, Chair of the Friends. “We hope such a practical and tangible gift will be a boost to the operation of the gallery and make the hanging process run smoothly.”
“Our working at heights processes and equipment were identified as a potential risk in a Workplace Health and Safety audit in late 2016 and we thank the Friends of NERAM for helping out with purchasing this significant piece of equipment,” said Robert Heather, Art Museum Director. “It is yet another example of how the Friends provide practical support to the day-to-day operations of the art museum.”
“Our volunteers were thrilled to see the EWP arrive as they felt that our old equipment was becoming unsafe. The scissor lift has a full extension of 5 metres and will be used regularly to assist with hanging artworks and adjusting lighting within the exhibition spaces.”
