Portrait Photography with Mike Terry

Emotive and memorable portraits reveal their strength in being a balance of the familiar and unexpected.  In this short 3 week course the group will discuss what elements work together for an effective photographic portrait, experiment with lighting both natural and artificial, and as a final project – execute their own portrait shoot or portrait series.

Photographer and filmmaker Mike Terry will be leading the course. His photographic work has been published internationally in magazines such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, People Magazine, Monocle, Rolling Stone, Der Spiegel, and many others. As an educator Mike is a frequent collaborator with NERAM and has lectured a master’s level course in Visual & Media Anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin from 2014 – 2023.

A digital or film camera is required for the course. As we will speak about manual shutter speed, ISO, and aperture settings, phone / tablet cameras are discouraged.

• All bookings for workshops require payment in full at the time of booking.
• A minimum of 8 participants for workshop to proceed, maximum of 10 participants.
• Bookings close on Tuesday 25th March at 10am. No refunds can be made after bookings close.
• If the workshop does not proceed, you will be refunded any cash amount.
• NERAM events have a limited capacity and use a ticketing system. Bookings are essential.
