May 3 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
$70This half-day workshop introduces participants to chromatic printing; the process of printing multiple colours in wood type (for instance, a blue letter with a red drop shadow). Using NERAM’s F.T.Wimble collection as a starting point, we will speculatively extend a historic font into the chromatic sphere by designing and printing a second chromatic layer. This class fuses knowledge from current digital techniques with historical type and equipment, placing participants at the intersection of past and present.
Participants will learn some type history while getting their hands dirty through printing with the historical equipment in the NERAM collection.
