On Friday, 3rd May ARTEXPRESS will be opened at NERAM by the NSW Minister for Education, Sarah Mitchell.
ARTEXPRESS is an annual exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the artmaking component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts in NSW. The exhibition showcases the considerable creative talent and technical skills of 2018’s Higher School Certificate Visual Arts students. It includes a broad range of mediums and conceptual inquiry that illustrate the many interests and concerns of Australia’s young creatives.
The selection of work touring to NERAM includes ceramics, drawing, painting, artist books, mixed media, photo media and video artworks and have been produced by students from across the state including Wollongong, Maitland, Gosford, Tomaree, Merewether, Hunter Valley, Northern Beaches and Sydney.
“We are thrilled to be hosting ARTEXPRESS again at NERAM”, said NERAM Director, Rachael Parsons. “It is a fantastic program that really highlights the exceptional skill of our state’s emerging artists and the important role that arts education in high school plays in developing the next generation of cultural innovators.”
“The exhibition is a favourite amongst the arts community as well as art students and school groups,” Ms Parsons said. “We have had many people enquiring about when ARTEXPRESS will return to NERAM, and we are sure that this year’s exhibition will inspire and impress visitors.”
ARTEXPRESS is jointly managed by the NSW Department of Education and the Board of Studies NSW. It is coordinated by The Arts Unit, Department of Education and Communities. ARTEXPRESS has exhibited over 3,000 students’ works in the past ten years. It has become a much anticipated event in NSW’s cultural calendar and continues to draw national and international acclaim.
To coincide with the exhibition NERAM is hosting two ARTEXPRESS workshops, one for teachers, May 6th, and one for students, May 7th. Visit the NERAM website for more information.
ARTEXPRESS runs from Friday 3rd May, until Sunday 30th June at New England Regional Art Museum.
